The series is about the adventure of the Cartwright family who owned a large ranch - The Ponderosa. The mine owners of Virginia city use Lotta Crabtree and a hired killer in a attempt to extort Ponderosa timber
from the Cartwright.Alpheus Troy, the mining expert suggests Lotta to lure one of the Cartwright boys into Virginia City, to be held ransom in exchange for Ponderosa Timber right and Little Joe is Lotta's pick.
In Bonanza Season 1, Joe fell in love with Julia Bulette. Adam and Hoss meets a Dutch immigrant, Philip Diedesheimer. The Cartwrights met miner who has been swindled by Henry T.P. The famous actress Adah Isaacs Menken visits Virginia. Joe and Hoss arrived in the town of Koeva Texas. Adam was bushwhacked by three men and Joe was about to choose between what he thinks a woman or a wolf.
The season ended with its season finale title Death at Dawn. The town is being run by bad guys and Cartwrights decided to stop it.
